With the current COVID-19 pandemic, we are living in unprecedented times as a global community. In March 2020, the Steering Committee made a decision to pause the BAIS V Survey.
Following that decision, the Botswana Government declared a state of emergency with a 28-day lockdown with strict guidelines on extreme social distancing.
During this interval, the BAIS V implementing team has been taking the time to ensure that we are fully prepared, so that at the time that the lockdown is lifted we will hit the ground running. To this end, we have been completing standard operating procedures, refining the plans for the re-training of field teams, completing the plans for fieldwork, and continuing with the ongoing engagement of the trained teams.
In addition, we continue to prepare the laboratories and test the data systems to ensure that everything is ship-shape ahead of the survey.
We will continue to provide updates on the progress of preparation for the BAIS V implementation and thank you our partners for your ongoing participation.
Meanwhile, continue to stay safe and if you are a frontline health care worker, we thank you for your service.
